I went to the laboratory in the middle/high school building with my teachers and (I think) the entire 4th grade, and we watched some of the middle/high school students show us different cool experiments there. (wish my science classes were as fun.)
The first experiment was called a “volcano” (obviously not the one that pours lava). This experiment required ammonium dichromate, alcohol, a tube and a spoon. We got a small volcano. This experiment was a chemical one. We melted some candle wax on the fire, and then poured it in cold water. This made it return to it’s “candle” form, which showed us the two states of the material — liquid and solid. this was a physical experiment.
And then we did another chemical experiment. We burnt some magnesium. During the chemical experiment, we discovered that while burning the magnesium, we got all the oxygen in the tube.
The last experiment required dry alcohol and calcium pills. We placed some calcium pills on this thing, put some dry alcohol, and burnt it. As a result “snakes” started coming out of the calcium pills. It had something to do with the stuff inside, and how they reacted to the burning alcohol.
Here is the video, so that you can see everything that happened:

During the second week of winter camp, a group of the 4th graders from the Northern school visited Mother School and had a master class at the High School Chemistry Laboratory with Venera Kharatyan. The campers, through their personal experiments, magically turned into little scientists wearing white aprons and gloves, and individual laboratory equipment. The scientists, as Mrs. Venera named them, discovered the content of starch in various food and received a task to find out the amount of starch in different food searching internet. They got acquainted with a number of chemicals, laboratory testers, rules for using them correctly, and with their own experience discovered a number of chemical phenomena. Then, during the English class, they learned a number of new words and expressions related to chemistry. A detailed description of our experiments and their English translation are shown below.
The experience of the campers presented in the video can be used as a video lesson.

Laboratory experiments: Qualitative reactions for starch detection.
Reactions for discovering starch
Starch which is the main source of carbohydrate in plants, gets dark blue coloring when there is the lowest concentration of iodine in it. If it is heated, the color disappears, and if it freezes, the color reappears. This reaction allows detecting even a small amount of starch in a given environment.
Work to be done:
Starch solutions Discoloration of iodine starch solution (when heated)
Recoloration of iodine starch solution (when it freezes)
Materials and reagents:
Potato, white bread, rice, an apple, vegetable oil, 1% starch solution, Lugol reagent
Accessories: test tubes, drippers, a test tube holder.
Working process: Pour 1 ml of starch solution into the test tube and one drop of Lugol reagent,
a purple-blue color occurs.
Put 0.5 g of different nutrients (pre-mashed in the mortar) into the numbered test tubes.
Add 2-3 ml of distilled water, shake, and add 1-2 drops of Lugol reagent. According to the coloring, determine the amount of starch in the nutrients.
